Finishes
Birch, oak and black-stained ash
The same design changes character with the wood. Compare the three side by side, or ask for a sample set before you decide.
Birch
Pale, calm and very Finnish. A fine, even grain that brightens a room and takes a natural oil beautifully.
Oak
Warmer and more figured, with the open grain and rays that make every tabletop its own. Finished with hard-wax oil.
Black-stained ash
Deep black, with the grain still visible through the stain. Graphic in a light room, quiet in a dark one.
Workshop
How a Koivu piece is made
There is no warehouse of finished stock. Your order starts a short, careful sequence of work in the Lahti workshop.
Timber
We buy Finnish birch and European oak and ash as sawn boards and let them settle in the workshop before cutting, so the wood moves less in your home.
Joinery
Frames are joined with mortise and tenon or with dowels and glue, never with screws that work loose over the years.
Finish
Every surface is sanded by hand, then oiled, waxed, or stained and lacquered. Cushions are upholstered in the same building.
Delivery
We deliver in our own van in southern Finland and by furniture courier elsewhere, and carry each piece into the room.

We work with interior designers, architects, furniture shops, and hotel and restaurant projects in Finland and abroad. Trade customers get drawings, samples and one named contact in the workshop.

Questions before you order
Short answers to what people ask most in the showroom. Anything else, ask us by phone or email.
How long does it take to get my furniture?
Most pieces are made and delivered six to eight weeks after the order. Large tables and custom sizes can take a little longer, and your order confirmation shows a planned delivery week.
Can I order a different size or wood?
Every piece comes in birch, oak or black-stained ash, and tables and benches can be made in other lengths. Ask us about other changes too: we will tell you honestly if a design does not allow them.
Do you sell directly or only through dealers?
Both. You can buy from a dealer near you or straight from the workshop in Lahti. The prices on this site are starting prices, and dealers are happy to show you the finishes in person.
